Alipants in the media TWICE

Monday, November 30th, 2009

A small step for advertising … a large step for Alipants!

elephant materialAlipants is mentioned twice  in the current issue of a local environmental publication, Hume City Council Ecotracks. This publication is currently posted to over 1000 local residents and can also be downloaded for your reading pleasure here. The first person to post a comment below with the names of both articles we are mentioned in will win a little hand-made elephant and yes I am the one doing the hand making ….. just as soon as my mother in law shows me how to thread her old sewing machine!!! The winner will have the choice of red or blue material for the elephant, pictured to the left.  Believe it or not these beautiful fabrics are actually a doona!! For the pricely sum of $4.99 I purchased a pre loved double doona and two pillow cases from a local op shop. They will live a second life as treasured little elephants and a summer dress or two for Tess!!

MiniLaLa’s on sale for 24 hours

low res red disco

It is hard to believe that our gorgeous little girl will be five months old tomorrow, how the time does fly! And to celebrate we are taking 5 percent off our beautiful MiniLaLa’s for 24 hours and yes that includes bulk packages. If you have been considering purchasing some MiniLaLa’s then from 10pm tonight until 10pm tomorrow night is the time to buy one … or 12!!

We recieved a new delivery of MiniLaLa’s today so we have all styles back in stock! I do have some tragic news though …….. sadly stocks of Red Disco Dots are extremely low at MiniLaLa world. And to make a terrible situation worse, Red Disco Dot will not be produced again (Noooooooooo). Luckily Alipants were able to snap up some of the remaining few gorgeous spotty nappies. I will be very sad to say goodbye to little Red can you tell? Make sure you are one of the lucky ones to recieve some spotty goodness before they are all gone.

Happy 5 month “birthday” darling

Ali (Mummy) xx

Moorafest

Wednesday, November 18th, 2009

Tess and I spent Sunday at Moorafest in Bacchus Marsh. It was a lovey day and we met lots of lovely people very interested in the cloth nappies. Again Minilala’s were very popular with lots of people ooohhing and aaahhing over them. The Itti Bitti’s also held their own on the day too. Here are some pictures of the stall just after set up.

Not only did we have gorgeous eco-friendly nappies on the day, we also had some beautiful products from our good friends Eco Toys. Many children were unable to resist the urge to play with these lovely toys …. in fact Owen was very keen to demonstrate the rainstick tower to anyone who happened to wander past. If you are after some lovely Christmas presents for the ankle bitters I would highly recommend a visit to the Eco Toys website.

DSC_0438

Check out these two cute chickens in their red cloth nappies! Tess and Anais were born on the same day, in the same hospital only an hour apart …..  Anias was first! Oh yeah, their mummies (Hannah and myself) also work together and are good friends! We did not discover until we were both 23 weeks that we were due at the same time! Poor Hannah had to listen to me talking about cloth nappies all day – and that was before I started Alipants!!

Tess is rocking a Booroi prefold in a small red Booroi PUL cover and Anais is looking gorgeous in a medium red Itti Bitti. Our girls are too precious for words. Here is another gorgeous photo for you all to enjoy …. Ali xx

YAY we got our water bill today

Friday, November 13th, 2009

The arrival of household bills at Maison d’Alipants is not usually an event that I enjoy. However, I was quite pleased when I opened up our most recent water bill. Our water company very conveniently provides a little bar graph on their bills that illustrates our daily average water consumption. Compared to the regional average the Alipants family uses roughly one third less water and we are way under out 155 litre per person per day target!! Great, fantastic, awesome I hear you all say … but why are you telling us this?

Well this is our first water bill we have recieved where we have been using cloth full time, so I was curious as to what effect the nappies would have on our water consumption. We have jumped from 183 litres per day for the same period last year to 223 litres this year! Not bad, not bad at all….

CB055213Here are a few water saving tips you can follow when washing nappies

  • Use water and energy efficient front loading washing machines
  • Throw your nappies in with other items you need washed, simply pre-rinse the nappies and add in other items before the main wash
  • Wash full loads
  • Use your grey water on your garden

Do you have some simple tips and tricks that you use to save water? Share them below because every drop counts!!!

A few changes

Monday, November 9th, 2009

I have been enjoying all of the feedback that I have been recieving about my gorgeous website .. so keep it coming! I also really appreciate hearing about features that you think will make the website more user friendly too. I have been listening and there are now a few new features to make your time spent buying up big on my website just that little bit more easy.

Firstly when you are shopping it is possible to check on the progress of your cart, you will find the link in the side bar under “other stuff” when you are in the shopping area. Also postage is now available for Alipant customers that do not reside in the home delivery area! After an afternoon of considering my options, I decided on the pre-paid parcel post satchels in an attempt to try to keep cost down for you guys. I was also swayed by the fact that for an additional $2.80 you can the peace of mind that registered post brings you. The satchels come in two sizes, the 500 gram satchel for $5.70 and the 3kg for $9.90. Unfortunately the way I have postage set up in the cart is not perfect … for example if you get a bit punch drunk on the gorgeous Minilala patterns and order yourself 12 dozen, you are only charged for the 500 gram satchel. I can assure you that 12 beautiful Minilala’s weigh a smidge more than half a kilo. On the other hand, if you were to order 3 packs of the very light Eenee flusable liners you will be charged $9.90. As I said not perfect …….

So if you think that you have been over charged for postage just shoot me an email to let me know and I will look into it. If you have paid by paypal I will cheerfully refund you the difference; if you are paying by direct deposit then you are welcome to wait until I confirm the postage cost. If you are not charged enough then I will contact you to let you know, I am sure that we can come to some sort of an understanding :)

I have also added all of the new Booroi cover options, although the new hot pink, orange and yellow are only available for pre order. I will post photos of these gorgeous new covers when I can. I am planning on placing a large order for covers once the new colours are available …… my only problem is going to be choosing which colours to order! Its a hard life, but someone has to do it!

thankyouKeep the fabulous suggestions coming

How not to hang your nappies on the line

Thursday, November 5th, 2009

I asked Mr Alipants to give me a hand this afternoon by hanging out the load of nappies I had just washed. Like the good husband he is, Mr Alipants had a bit of a moan but then complied.

I walked outside to get some previous washing off the line and I observed THIS…… which made me a bit cranky!

nappy incorrectYes I do realise how lucky I am to have a husband that is willing to hang out washing however, he has done it wrong (love you honey). Can’t spot his mistake? Well hanging the nappy by its wings will cause the elastic around the legs to stretch which will eventually weaken the elastic and make the nappy less effective at containing solids.  A better way to hang your nappy is on its side.

nappy correctSo the moral to this story is do not let your husband hang out your nappies. No, scratch that; the moral of this story is make sure your husband reads this post before you let him loose on your precious nappies!

I love getting mail ……

Wednesday, November 4th, 2009

Thank goodness the public holiday is over because I knew that I had some rather special mail on the way ….. I LOVE mail, well except for the bills that is

Booroi have just released their new PUL print covers, and aren’t they just to die for!!

Tess is expertly modelling the small red and white strip cover and is intently trying to eat the newborn black and white dot cover. Wait a minute did I just say newborn? Thats right folks Booroi have released the prints in a newborn size …. perfect for the smaller bubbas. Tess was tiny when she was born and the small Booroi covers were huge on her for the first few weeks. Kate from Booroi sent down a newborn prototype for us to try with Tess and it was a much better fit and it still fitted even after she had grown big enough to fit into the small covers.
Another change to the covers you may notice is that there are now five sets of snaps on the wings instead of the usual four. This gives a better fit for a longer time, so Booroi covers are now even more awesome for those in between sizes stages!
I also recieved a shipment of Booroi size one prefolds today; we currently have 5 packs of the natural prefolds in a variety of different coloured wetbags and 2 packs of the green prefolds in stock.
